Cast metal figure of the famed inventor, physicist, and mathematician who sits with his hand on a steam digester with blueprints on his lap. Papin's steam digester inspired the development of the autoclave, the pressure cooker and the piston-and-cylindersteam engine. The clock post is toppedwith a bulbous finial and has side tassels. The porcelain dial has Roman numerals, Louis XV clock hands, and an open Brocot escapement behind beveled glass. Eight day spring movement, time and half hour strike cathedral gong. Movement marked "Ansonia Clock Co. patented June 18, 1882". The figure and clock stand on a black slate base has a gold colored Greco Roman bas relief on the front and sides. The piece has four small impact marks on front rim of pedestal (please inspect photo closely), that do not significantly detract from overall appearance. Patina is consistent with age and use. Selling price includes professional cleaning, oiling and adjustment of the clock mechanism.
