A super warming dish - possibly for muffins, or anything else which needs to be kept warm. Boiling water is poured into the base and then the cork inserted - the dish will then stay warm. Do notice the lovely blue and white disc on the cork. It is a mid 19th Century dish with a pattern of "Trellis & Plants". It is nice to get the name on the base - and then to see that the pattern is trellis and plants! There is an impressed mark saying New Stone BB (which is Best Body), which I understand to be Minton 1830-1860. The base is 8.7 inches in diameter and the base and lid stand max. 5 inches tall. As a 19th Century dish, over 150 years old, which has obviously been well used it is not perfect. However it appears in good condition and is very usable. There is an old chip on the inside of the lid, another on the rim of the base and another on the base edge. There is a scratch or crack which has become dirty. There is some light staining to the base inside, to the knob and to the inside of the lid. I have photographed all these. I haven't tried to clean any of the stains. I have other blue and white for sale at the moment so do take a look in my shop. Posting I send first class Signed For so that you can be confident of your item being delivered.
