Item:133202306735Decorative Art Tile Co. - c1890 "Brown Plums" -- Antique * Monochrome Glaze * Molded Majolica * Aesthetic Movement -- A beautiful, molded majolica, wall tile, created by, "The Decorative Art Tile Company," circa 1890. The brilliant walnut brown glaze, with its crystalline clarity, allows one to appreciate the fine design details of this beautiful antique tile. As if the surface of this tile is being pealed back, allowing us to see the ripe clustering of plums on branch inside its depths, this tile hides its maker's artistry until closely examined. Note the fine line designs of its corners. Condition: Very Good This tile is in remarkable condition, but displays a small impact mark to its glaze, at the upper-middle, left side of the design. This was probably the result of a fireplace tool falling against the tile during its long life. Still, the tile presents itself nicely after surviving 130 years. The verso displays mortar traces, but seems to have been spared soot staining, a sign this tile was used to decorate a wall, or a piece of furniture...and not an English fireplace. The verso displays an early "Ring" style grip pattern, known to be used by the Decorative Art Tile Company, who would have been responsible for making the entire tile, and not just for decorating it. Please examine the high-resolution scans to determine the exact state of this tile.
