Seller: mbeady (1.243) 100%, Location: Albuquerque, New Mexico, Ships to: Worldwide, Item: 143349997064 An Art Deco Majolica Japanese tile, dust pressed, 5 colors, pink roses, ivy garland, central checkerboard design, circa 1930, “Made in Japan” impressed on back, has green felt pieces on back. 6” x 6”, no damage. These Art Deco, majolica tiles were made in Japan in the 1910’s - 1930’s to satisfy demand for tiles in India and Southeast Asia. The colonial British wanted homes and furniture that reminded of them home, but tiles are expensive to ship. Japan responded by supplying tile designs derived from English Victorian and Art Nouveau tiles. Also they were and are favored by the Peranakan Straits Chinese for their homes, furniture and grave marker decorations in Malaysia and Singapore. In very good vintage condition. Please inspect the photos carefully, they are an integral part of the description. Happy to combine shipping. Please see the other tiles I have listed.
