ROYAL DOULTON  JUG/PITCHER

"JACOBEAN"

"D913""

ITEM:  Royal Doulton tall jug in the Jacobean series. This jug is a genuine antique, verifiably dating to 1901.

DESCRIPTION: The jug has a bulbous body with a flared  top and base. It has a chocolate brown trim around the top and the circular base. It is elaborately decorated with the central motif of two cavaliers in an inn with other features on the reverse side being a bell and a fountain. The pattern is part of the Royal Doulton Series Ware collection and is described by Louise Irvine in her  series ware books, "Royal Doulton Series Ware", Vol 2, Pages 11-12. The series is under the heading, "In a Man's World."

Note that the photos provided form part of the description. Any shiny spots or white marks are from the camera shots, not blemishes on the item.

MATERIAL: Earthenware.

COLOURING: On a  Holbein sepia coloured ground with black and brown.

MEASUREMENTS: The jug is 16.5cms high and is 8cms diameter across the top, It is 7.5cms diameter across the base.

CONDITION: No chips, cracks, staining or restoration. Very mild glaze crazing to the inside top, hardly detectable. Just a couple of pieces of wayward clay under the glaze on the base (see photos), part of the manufacturing process. It has retained a beautiful glaze shine. In excellent condition in my opinion.

MARKINGS: The bottom of the jug has the Royal Doulton old Burslem stamp in use until 1901 and the special "Jacobean" stamp. Also the pattern registration number, "D913".

AGE:  Dates to 1901, confirmed by the back stamps and the description in Ms Irvine's entry in Volume 2 mentioned above.

GENERAL COMMENTS: Lovely collectable from a by-gone era. Excellent condition. A lovely addition to your collection. Any one who collects rarer Royal Doulton Series Ware pieces wont find another in such fine condition.

POSTAGE: Within Australia, regular post is $18.00. I will ship overseas, New Zealand $28.00, all other countries $45.00. Other postage options other than regular post are available.
