ON DEMAND WE ISSUE A CERTIFICATE OF AUTHENTICITY (money-back-guarantee)
On view here is an extreme rarity for the current antique market (we were unable to find any other work of this artist in the auction records of the past 30 years) - a work of French, early-19th-century portrait miniaturist Claude Marie Eugene Vietty.
A certain degree of ambivalence in regards to Claude Marie Eugene Vietty persists in reference literature. For instance, Thieme-Becker (see our image nr.8), instead of Claude Marie Eugene, refers to his older brother, sculptor Jean-Baptiste Vietty (1787-1842), who for inexplicable reasons, used his brother's (4 years his junior Claude Marie Eugene's) name to enroll himself into the Parisian Ecole des Beaux-Arts. Conversely, Fritz Lemberger (see our image nr.9) straightaway offers the biography of this "younger brother". According to Lemberger, the latter was born in 1791 in Amplepluis in the department Rhöne and died after 1831. Similarly, Lemberg writes that Claude Marie Eugene Vietty was active (mainly as sculptor) in Lyon, department Loire and Paris. We do, however, believe that Claude Marie Eugene Vietty was only ever active as miniaturist and that his presumed activity as a sculptor was recorded erroneously due to his older brother's forged enrollment in Ecole des Beaux-Arts (see above) as a sculptor.
