Item:362717890234I am retired and have had professional horological training. I restore antique and vintage clocks as a hobby - and have been doing so now for nearly 40 years. I specialise in carriage clocks. I spent several enjoyable hours in my workshop at the beginning of this month restoring this one. CLASSIC ANTIQUE FRENCH CARRIAGE CLOCK IN EXCELLENT ORIGINAL CONDITION. IT HAS A GOOD QUALITY NUMBERED MOVEMENT AND WAS MANUFACTURED C 1900 BY DOUVERDREY & BLOQUEL. Height (with handle folded down) 4 3/4 inches (12 cms); Width 3 inches (7.5 cms); Depth 2 1/2 inches (6.5 cms) MOVEMENT: 8 day timepiece numbered 50 inside both plates and repeated on the mainspring barrel cap. It is fitted with its original lever escapement (stamped "MADE IN FRANCE"), which works well with good amplitude. It was working rather reluctantly when I acquired it, so I dismantled it completely to check all parts carefully for wear. Satisfied that the problem was not wear but simply dirt and congealed oil, I carefully cleaned all the parts, hand polished the pivots, pegged out the sinks and finally, after rebuilding it, oiled it back and front with appropriate grade clock oil. I also cleaned the escapement and oiled that with fine grade watch oil. The movement now looks almost as good as it would have done when the clock was first sold.CASE:Solid brass case in good overall condition. All the case parts are stamped with the same number (142) showing it to be completely original. The rear door opens and closes with absolute precision which is an indication that the clock has not been dropped or otherwise damaged in the past. It still has its original base masking plate (these are often missing). The case which, when I acquired the clock, was black with years of grime and tarnish, has restored well. After completely dismantling it and cleaning the parts, I hand polished them, finishing the process with a chalk brush. I then gave them a couple of coats of special wax polish to delay the tarnishing process. The case now has a rich antique patina which should last for years.DIAL: I cleaned the white enamel-on-copper dial and minimised some damage to the top corner: this can only be seen on the very closest of inspections and does not show in the pictures. I obviously wanted to retain the dial as it is original to the clock. The roman numerals and the chapter ring are crystal clear and each five minute point is marked with a small gold dot. The polished blued steel hands are in perfect condition.GLASSES: All five thick bevelled glasses - made out of top quality "greenish" optical glass - are in perfect condition save for a tiny and unobtrusive nibble to the bottom right corner of the right side glass.KEY: The clock comes with a double-ended brass key. One end is for winding the movement and the other is for adjusting the hands. A fast/slow adjustment lever is reached through the rear door.INSTRUCTIONS: I will enclose a brief note with the clock explaining how to get it started if it has stopped when you receive it. I will also give you my contact details so that you can get in touch with me with any subsequent questions about care and maintenance. THIS CLASSIC ANTIQUE CARRIAGE CLOCK IS IN REALLY GOOD ORIGINAL CONDITION. IT WILL NOT NEED SERVICING AGAIN FOR YEARS. The clock is heavy and will be packed well, hence the charges! Packaging (new double boxes) & Postage (tracked and insured) UK £10.00; EU £20.00 (approx. 22 Euros); Elsewhere £30.00 I pack well, post promptly after payment and keep purchasers informed at all stages of the transaction.
