Carcharodontosaurus ( / ËŒ k Ér k Ér ɵ ËŒ d É n t ɵ ˈ s Ér É s / ) was a gigantic carnivorous carcharodontosaurid dinosaur that lived around 100 to 93 million years ago , during the late Albian to early Cenomanian stages of the mid-Cretaceous Period . It was among the largest predatory dinosaurs, nearly as long as or even longer than Tyrannosaurus .
The Carcharodontosaurus is named after the shark genus Carcharodon (from the Greek καÏÏαÏο karcharo meaning "jagged" or "sharp" and οδονÏο odonto meaning "teeth", and σαÏÏÎ¿Ï sauros , meaning "lizard"[ 1] ) â "jagged-toothed lizard" or "sharp-toothed lizard".
