Seller: commits (9.133) 98.9%, Location: Yucaipa, California, Ships to: Worldwide, Item: 113879081594 We have a large number of vintage and antique clocks currently listed along with an equally impressive collection of music boxes and other very nice collectibles. Be sure to have a look at our other items! This is an outstanding find of an absolutely stunning, lightly used, large, deeply hand carved music and dancers forest life wooden cuckoo clock that was created about 25 years ago in the Black Forest of "Germany." This clock is highly coveted, uniquely designed, deeply carved, and was looks very much like an intricate branches of a pine tree like many you'd find in the Black Forest. It is complete with a carved nest, four eggs, and two parents doting over the nest! There is a beautifully carved wooden squirrel holding an acorn perched on either side of the dial and a couple of Black Forest owls on the very top of the case; absolutely beautiful!!! There is a wooden balcony in front above the dial complete with fancy carved wooden scallops draped below it. And there are four wooden colorful dancers mounted on a rotating platform just behind the balcony. The wooden dial has a black backdrop on the chapter ring that features large, easy to read wooden Roman numerals to mark the hours and a rare set of matching, fancy wooden hands to point out the time. There is a wooden door at the very back secured with two metal latches. The door easily removes to allow access to the all metal, weight driven movement produced by "Regula." A weight driven movement simply means that the chains need to be pulled occasionally to wind the clock, cuckoo, music, and animation activities. The bellow whistle tubes are intact and the tops look and sound good too! At the bottom of each hour, a colorful wooden bird opens the wooden door above the dance platform near the top and stands in the doorway. The bird gives off a single cuckoo sound in tandem with a nice sounding coiled chime inside the case before retreating back inside the clock and closing the door. Once he is safely back inside, the dance floor begins to turn and the dancers spin about while a high quality, "Swiss Romance" music box plays a wonderful rendition of "Der Frohliche Wanderer" (Happy Wanderer), one of the most popular tunes ever created. The dancers stop when the music stops and they wait until the next half hour. Then, at the top of each hour, the bird appears again and correctly cuckoos and chimes the current number of hours and then retreats to the safe confines of the clock. Then the dance floor begins to turn again and the wooden dancers spin about and this time the Swiss music box plays a lovely rendition of "Edelweiss," one of the most recognized tunes ever created from the Sound of Music. When the music stops, the dancers do too and wait for the next half hour to resume the dance; absolutely fascinating! The clock works just fine here, keeps good time, cuckoos/chimes accurately, and the music is just heavenly! It also has another fine feature. There is a metal lever under the case in front that allows you to enable or disable the cuckoo, chime, and music feature as you wish...nice thing to have when company is over or if you have a light sleeper in the house. I've looked the clock over fairly well and can't find any missing pieces or repairs and only little signs of use. Keep in mind that even though it looks fairly new and the movement does show signs of maintenance, it is an old clock and we don't know the service history. It is a very impressive clock and the ideal size too measuring about 16 1/2" or so high (not counting the weights or pendulum), about 7" at its deepest point, and about 10" at its widest point. We recommend servicing this clock and just about any vintage or antique clock at least once every three years. Doing so will keep a classic clock like this one, healthy for years to come. The clock comes complete as shown with three sets of attached metal chains, a carved wooden pine branch pendulum, and three heavy pinecone shaped metal weights. This clock is in a class all by itself and is certain to be the focal point of any collection. Any guests in your home or office will be more than pleased to see and hear this rare, fascinating German timepiece in action. Bid with all confidence; I have no doubt that you will love this clock!
