Certainly for a cold sauce or condiment, not something hot (the glass would break). In great condition, the handles closely resemble the Onslow pattern made by Tuttle (now a part of Wallace) starting in the early 1930's but this piece is marked by Redlich & Company, also with the stamp STERLING and 3077. Ladle is stamped STERLING on the handle. Height 2 3/4", diameter 3 7/8" (4 3/4" with handle). Ladle is 4 1/4" long. Silver weight is 124 grams.

The makers mark on this wonderful piece of London sterling silver is too obscure to learn the makers name, but the other hallmarks are clear. The date letter is quite specific ie between May 29, 1784 and November 30, 1784. There is strong beading work just under the opening and the three feet are step layered. The monogram reads “HM to WM” and is nicely scripted. There is an engraving opposite the monogram of an upright arm with the hand gripping a sword. The piece weighs 15.19ozt. The H mark visible has to be part of the maker's mark as there was no capital H date letter in use for this period.

Clearly hallmarked on the base for London 1903, at the beginning of the reign of Edward VII, they have the maker's mark of Haseler Brothers (Edward John Haseler & Noble Haseler).

An Excellent Pair of George II Silver Sauce boats, London 1737 by Benjamin West - As his first mark was entered at the beginning of 1738, we can date these sauce boats as having been made between 14th January 1738 and 28th June 1738 - the date when the date letter changed to a C. These superb silver sauce boats are of the raised circular form with extended pouring lip and applied handle surmounted with a cast acanthus leaf thumbpiece.
