Item:362722754725I am retired and now restore antique and vintage clocks in what spare time I have. I specialise in carriage clocks. I spent several enjoyable hours in my workshop earlier this month restoring this one. CLASSIC ANTIQUE FRENCH CARRIAGE CLOCK IN EXCELLENT ORIGINAL CONDITION. IT HAS A GOOD QUALITY NUMBERED MOVEMENT AND WAS MANUFACTURED C 1900 BY DOUVERDREY & BLOQUEL. IT WAS ORIGINALLY RETAILED BY HARRODS OF LONDON. I RESTORED AND SERVICED IT LAST MONTH. Height (with handle folded down) 4 3/4 inches (12 cms); Width 3 inches (7.5 cms); Depth 2 3/4 inches (7 cms) MOVEMENT: 8 day timepiece numbered 43 inside both movement plates. It is stamped on the back plate with the Douverdrey & Bloquel trademark lion and, on the contrate wheel cock with "MADE IN FRANCE" It is fitted with its original cylinder escapement which works well with good amplitude. Jewellers labels on the base plate suggest that the clock has been professionally maintained in the past. However, it was working a bit sluggishly when I acquired it, so I dismantled it completely and checked all parts carefully for wear (none found!). I hand polished the pivots, pegged out the sinks and finally, after rebuilding it, oiled it back and front with appropriate grade clock oil. I also cleaned the escapement and oiled that with fine grade watch oil. The movement now looks almost like it would have done when the clock was first sold.CASE:Solid brass case in good overall condition. All the case parts are stamped with the same number (17) showing it to be completely original. The rear door opens and closes with absolute precision. It still has its original base masking plate (these are often missing), which bears a couple of watchmakers labels and is inscribed with an interesting bit of a musical score - which was a new one on me! The case which, when I acquired the clock was pretty tarnished, has restored well. After completely dismantling it and cleaning the parts, I hand polished them, finishing the process with a chalk brush. I then gave them a couple of coats of special wax polish to delay the tarnishing process. The case now has a rich antique patina which should last for years.DIAL: I cleaned the white enamel-on-copper dial and repaired an unsightly chip to the top right corner: this can now only be seen on the closest of inspections and does not show in the pictures. I obviously wanted to retain the dial as it is original to the clock and bears the name of the original retailer - HARRODS Ltd. LONDON - PARIS. The roman numerals and the chapter ring are crystal clear and each five minute point is marked with a discreet gold dot. The polished blued steel hands are in perfect condition.GLASSES: All five thick bevelled glasses - made out of top quality "greenish" optical glass - are in perfect condition save for a very tiny and unobtrusive chip to the top right corner of the right side glass.KEY: The clock comes with a double-ended brass carriage clock key. One end is for winding the movement and the other is for adjusting the hands. A fast/slow adjustment lever is reached through the rear door.INSTRUCTIONS: I will enclose a brief note with the clock explaining how to get it started if it has stopped when you receive it. I will also give you my contact details so that you can get in touch with me with any subsequent questions about care and maintenance. THIS CLASSIC ANTIQUE CARRIAGE CLOCK IS IN OUTSTANDING ORIGINAL CONDITION. IT WILL NOT NEED SERVICING AGAIN FOR YEARS. The clock is heavy and will be packed well, hence the charges! Packaging (new double boxes) & Postage (tracked and insured) UK £10.00; EU £20.00 (approx. 22 Euros); Elsewhere £30.00 I pack well, post promptly after payment and keep purchasers informed at all stages of the transaction.
