Seller: inoldmoneypatrick (2.396) 100%, Location: Fakenham, Ships to: Worldwide, Item: 133163935009 Hello, This writing slope has been a labour of love for me, as it is the first writing slope i have owned and restored. When I purchased it at a local auction house it was in a state - no working key, writing slope hinge cloth in worn condition no secret panel , no drawers . but it did have the inkwell. DESCRIPTIONWalnut wood with a mother of pearl rectangle cartouche on the lid with Tonbridge inlay border and Tonbridge inlay inner border and edges. You have a Mother of Pearl key lock surrounded with a Tonbridge inlay border. Original inkwell with a silver plated screw top and moulded glass body. Tilting pen holder and hidden storage space below. Now, you see the finished article and I hope you like what you see . The original writing slope cloth has been strengthened not changed. You have a hidden panel with three drawers which I made , each drawer has a tiny shell drawer handle. The hidden panel is press fitted, so press the end side where the ink well is to disengage the panel to reveal your three tiny secret drawers. The lock is working and I have a key to fit. I have also supplied to keep in with the period some extra items - first you have a 19th century ink nib pen with a bone shaft. you also have a salt glazed stoneware inkwell filler bottle circa 1850-`80s. Writing a letter at night you may need extra light so I have included a lovely tiny brass metal candlestick holder that unscrews at the shaft and base and you can store it in one of the drawers - see photos A writing slope needs to store paper and envelopes - the top panel has a brass catch that you lift to release the hinged panel, behind that panel is an area for your writing paper and envelope with a wooden rail to keep them in place. also included with the slope is a small two blade letter opener, a white Oriental themed page turner and a Queen Victoria stamp . Condition: See photos please, Product Type: Writing Slopes, Style/ Period: Victorian, Product: writing slope, Age: 1850-1899, Primary Material: Wood/ Woodenware, Sub-Type: Walnut, Original/Repro: Original
