Extremely impressive large antique dinner gong in a deeply carved oak stand, dating from 1880-1889. The stand has carved cones, nuts and leaves to the two sides; the top has large scrolls and a gorgeous lion mask on a shield to the centre. It would originally have had a dark finish, which is now worn in places, showing golden oak wood. The gong is made from bronze or bell-metal with a patinated finish (which doesn't need polishing). When struck, it makes a deep and resonating sound. The end of the beater seems to be original but the shaft has been replaced at some time. It is happy to stand on the floor and also looks spectacular on top of something like a table, chest, sideboard etc, so doesn't even necessarily take up floor space. The stand is approx 1.2m high x 60cm wide x 36cm deep at the feet. (3ft 4ins high) The gong is approx  46cm diam x 9cm deep  The beater is 77cm long The gong weighs almost 10kg but is fairly easy to post. However, I'm not sure about the stand - I would prefer to send by courier (not in a network) but may be able to find a box big enough, it depends on your postcode. I'm asking £30 as a contribution as it may cost up to £100. Otherwise, you are welcome to use your own courier or pick it up if you live near Newry (unlikely I know). Using a private courier will cause a delay of up to about 3 weeks.
