The corners and edges are bound in brass with matching brass escutcheon and cartouche. Inside, the box is fitted with a good quality green leather writing surface with a gold tooled edge. It comes with a glass inkwell and a pen tray. There is a secret compartment with 3 small drawers below the front leather surface that springs open by lifting a piece of wood next to the inkwell. The box is in very good condition for its age with a beautiful patina and displays very nicely. The leather writing surface is in excellent condition.
