Here we have a nice small antique oak and mahogany cross banded 30 hour longcase / grandfather clock with beautiful shell inlaid in the trunk door and in the base. There are also some very nice inlays above and below the trunk door and above the hood door. It is the original dial to movement and to the case.
The dial has lovely gilded and painted corners and a pretty bird to the centre and is signed 'Jas Shipley, Derby' who is recorded in 'Brain Loomes Watchmakers & Clocksmakers of the World Volume 2' as 'SHIPLEY. James. Derby(B 1890). 1828-35. Watchmaker'.
Approx. MAXIMUM dimensions are : 20 1/4 inches / 51.5 cm wide (across hood), 14 1/2 inches / 37 cm wide (across trunk), 19 1/2 inches / 49.5 cm wide (across base) x 82 1/4 inches / 209 cm high. Also 9 1/2 inches / 224 cm deep across hood.
The dial is approximately : 12 inches / 30.5 cm wide x 12 inches / 30.5 cm high
CONDITION: The clock case is being sold requiring a small amount of restoration. The case is in generally good condition just odd knock, marks. shrinkage lines and odd chips to the veneer commensurate with age. The movement is quite clean and is ticking away but it is being sold as requiring a service but the movement is very clean so probably doss not need it but that is up to you. Please study photographs carefully as they form part of the description and condition, as what you view is exactly what you will receive.
