DESCRIPTION

This large elaborate Dresden Candlestick is a magnificent and very ornate example of early 20th century Dresden Saxony POTSHCAPPEL porcelain manufacture.

The style is Rococo Revival. The composition is typically asymmetrical and consists of complex organically flowing Rococo C-Scrolls and S-Scrolls which create a sense of flow and movement in the design. This sculpture presents very interesting silhouettes and views from all angles! The ten-inch-tall sculptural composition is crowned by a cluster of organically flowing forms which appear to be feathery leaves, adding an exotic accent to this wonderful piece!

A plump female cherub, wearing a chignon coiffure and adorned with bows in her hair, is seated on an elaborately adorned curving chair from behind which a tall tree springs thick branches and a luxurious wide canopy of miniature hand-painted amazingly detailed flowers and a variety of attractive colorful fruits.

The cherub shields her eyes with her right hand as if to avoid the glare from candlelight. The cherub figure is extremely well modelled and proportioned.

The 22 karat gold hand painted gilding is brilliant and perfectly preserved everywhere--on the drapery which flows around the cherub, across the chair and highlighting the eight open petals of the the acanthus candle cup capital.

VERY FINE CONDITION

This sculpture is only missing the far right side acanthus cup capital. This is not very noticeable because the tree branch arcs downwards at that point. Otherwise this Dresden porcelain candlestick would be in perfect condition! All of the minutely rendered hand painted flowers and miniature fruits are in perfect condition and their colors are brilliant and vibrant!
