Item:173929405514A very rare survivor, a mahogany George the third ,C1780 bracket clock case and what appears to be the original dial but alas the movement is missing. Standing at approximately 11.5 inches to the top of the carrying handle and 6.5 wide at its max point it is very small and must have had a very handsome movement in it originally, probably a fusee with a verge escapement. The case is constructed to the highest London standards in mahogany with oak subframing ,originally both front and back doors had small locks, now removed and filled but a real sign of quality in 1780 when locks were very expensive. The colour of the mahogany is rich and has never been stripped or repolished, the front door might have had some form of mounts as there are marks that might indicate this or they could just be old repairs though they aren't particularly noticeable. Please study the images carefully as they form part of the description.Original hinges and ogee bracket feet. Carrying handle probably an old replacement There is a hole cut in the oak base, not original, presumably to accommodate a later movement with a longer pendulum. The brass dial has been altered in its long life presumably to allow for a replacement movement, it could be restored or used as a template and the lovely spandrels reused. If you have a rare miniature eighteenth century movement this very rare case might be suitable, it's internal dimensions are; 10 cm wide at the back door.12 cm inside, max internal depth to the back door from the back of the mask is 4.8 cm, max height 17.8 cm. All measurements are approximate. If you require more detailed dimensions please email or if you have any questions.More images are no problem. With top end Georgian miniature bracket clocks starting at about £4000 this is a more affordable way of acquiring something very very rare.
