Item:233315129259This is a mid Taisho Era (c. 1920) katana dai (samurai sword tansu stand) with a unique combination of six different size storage drawers for sword fittings and oils. This sword tansu stand has a unique elm wood case with black lacquered kiri (paulownia) wood drawer interiors (see pictures 5 & 6). It has its original burgundy lacquer finish and removable top stand (see picture 9) with well crafted sliding dovetail fittings for easy assembly or removal. This chest has been well used yet well loved, and with the exception of minor signs of past use (see picture 8) and a deep warm patina, it remains in very fine condition. All drawers runs smoothly and the top sword fitting will accommodate most any size samurai sword. This chest measures 19" long by 9 1/2" high by 10" deep not counting sword fitting (48 x 24 x 25 cm). With sword fitting stand it is 20" high (50 cm). Very solidly built, a great piece of Japanese history and also makes a great stand for your favorite sword as well as jewelry box or a classic desk top organizer today.Please note: The samurai swords seen in pictures 1, 2, and 12 are NOT included in this listing.
