Seller: graham3943 (1.187) 100%, Location: Thames Ditton, Ships to: Europe, Asia, US, CA, AU, Item: 362750149350 I am retired and have had professional horological training. I restore antique and vintage clocks in my spare time - and have been doing so now for nearly 40 years. I specialise in carriage clocks. I spent several enjoyable hours in my workshop earlier this month working on this one. A CLASSIC ANTIQUE MINIATURE FRENCH CARRIAGE CLOCK* WITH A NUMBERED MOVEMENT IN PERFECT ORIGINAL CONDITION. I CLEANED AND SERVICED IT AT THE START OF THIS MONTH. * IT IS SHOWN IN THE SECOND PICTURE ALONGSIDE A STANDARD CARRIAGE CLOCK FOR PURPOSES OF SIZE COMPARISON ONLY (THE CLOCK FOR AUCTION IS THE SMALLER ONE ON THE RIGHT). Height (with handle folded down) 3 1/4 inches (8 cms); Width 2 inches (5 cms); Depth 1 3/4 inches (4.5 cms) MOVEMENT: Good quality 8 day timepiece with a very good quality 7 jewel silvered lever escapement which works well with good amplitude. The movement is numbered 2218 in the bottom left corner of the back plate and has "MADE IN FRANCE" stamped in the bottom right corner. It was working perfectly when I acquired it, nevertheless, I removed the dial and the hands to check it for wear. Satisfied there was no wear, I cleaned it and then oiled it back and front with appropriate grade clock oil. I also partially dismantled and cleaned the escapement and oiled that with fine grade watch oil. The whole movement movement now looks almost like it would have done when the clock was first sold.CASE:Solid brass case in wonderful overall condition. All the case parts are stamped with the same number (4) showing it to be completely original. The rear door opens and closes with absolute precision. It has a few interesting jewellers marks - one on the outside of the base plate with the date 8/10/25, another inside the base plate "M. NUTT 11/4/04", and yet another by M. NUTT 6/2/04 on the front plate beneath the dial. I'm pretty sure Mr. Nutt was the last person to service the clock: and a good job he made of it too! The lacquer finish to the case, although dirty was in perfect condition. So, instead of stripping it off as I normally have to do, I simply washed the case parts in warm soapy water and gave them a couple of coats of special wax polish to give added protection to the fine lacquer finish. The case now has a rich antique patina which should last for years.DIAL: I cleaned the white enamel-on-copper dial which is original and in perfect condition. The delicate polished blued steel hands are in perfect condition.GLASSES: All five thick bevelled glasses - made out of top quality "greenish" optical glass - are in perfect condition.KEY: The clock comes with a new double-ended brass key. One end is for winding the movement and the other is for adjusting the hands. A fast/slow adjustment lever is reached through the rear door.INSTRUCTIONS: I will enclose a brief note with the clock explaining how to get it started if it has stopped when you receive it. I will also give you my contact details so that you can get in touch with me with any subsequent questions about care and maintenance. THIS MINIATURE ANTIQUE CARRIAGE CLOCK IS IN SUPERB CONDITION. IT WILL NOT NEED SERVICING AGAIN FOR YEARS. The clock will be very well packed using new double boxes. It will also be shipped using a tracked and insured service. Cost: UK £10.00; EU £20.00 (approx. 22 Euros); Elsewhere £30.00 I pack well, post promptly after payment and keep purchasers informed at all stages of the transaction.
