Item:192900614354Traditional, double-leaf, string-bound Japanese book, dating to the 1870s. This was a period when Japan opened to the rest of the world outside of it and was eager to learn about other cultures. The 8.5 by 6 inch book has purple-printed covers, no title slip, 37 numbered leaves (74 pages) with about 2 dozen illustrations of scenes from around the world. These have a crosshatched linear style unlike earlier woodblocks and may have been based on western engravings. Scenes from every continent, including famous sites, exotic animals, native peoples, mountainscapes and cityscapes. This antique book has wear and damage typical of a nearly 150 year old item. Expect slight soil, some creasing, some spotting, some moth holes. I don't feel that any of this takes away from the enjoyment of the content, but be aware that this is far from a perfect copy.Primary Material:Paper, Age:1850-1899, Original/Reproduction:Antique Original, Region of Origin:Japan
