Fabulous condition and beautifully decorated and drafted, Charles I era indenture relating to a close of land in the parish of Overstowey, Somerset.

The document is dated 27th day of June in the 13th year of our sovereign, Lord Charles, 1637. The agreement is between Hughe Pymm of Cleyhanger in the county of Devon, clerk of the one part, and Robert Blynman of Lydiard, Saint Lawrence in the county of Somerset, Yeoman of the other part. Whereas the right honourable Algernon, Earl of Northumberland, Lord of the honours of Cockermouth and Petworth, Lord Percy, Lucy Poynings, Fitzpaine, Bryan and Latimer by his indenture, bearing date the first day of July in 1634 and in the 10th year of the reign of our said sovereign Lord King Charles, or his demise, grant, and to farme lett unto said, Hughe Pymm all that close, parcel of land, and pasture upon Quantock, situated, lying and being in the parish and permits of Overdtowey in the county of Somerset and parcel of the Manor of Weeke Fitzpaine in the said county of Somerset, containing by estimation, 42 acres more or less, the land being and lying adjoining to the ground of the said Robert Blynman the east and north, the Bailey of Cockercombe on the south Smodcombe on the north.

The bottom margin contains the signature of Hughe Pymm. The bottom margin also has an appended seal which is in good condition.

The document measures 27“ x 12“, not including the seal.

The document appears to be on vellum and is drafted in English secretary hand. The document is in very good condition for its age with obvious fold lines, and browning. Wear in the fold lines, particularly where they meet. No tears. Please see photos.
