For sale is a fine signed letter from Grand Duchess Kira Kirillovna of Russia (1909-1967), written on stationery embossed with 'Tsarskoe Self' 'Vladimir Palace', dated 19th September 1916 to her nanny Miss Mary Petrie whose nickname was Miss Eiffie after the Eiffel Tower.  She was the daughter of Grand Duke Kirill Vladimirovich and Grand Duchess Victoria Feodorovna and was born in Coburg. Her parents marriage had not been approved of by Tsar Nicholas II as she was the former wife of the Tsarina's brother and lived in exile prior to World War I.  Following the revolution the family moved to Finland and later Germany. She was born a princess, but upon her father's declaration in 1924 to be the Guardian of the Throne and then Emperor, elevated her and her sister to Grand Duchess. In 1938 she married the head of the German Imperial House, Prince Louis Ferdinand. During World War I Prince Louis worked underground against the Nazis and they were both later incarcerated in the Dachau concentration camp until they were rescued in 1945 by American troops. She died in 1967 from a heart attack at the home of her brother Grand Duke Vladimir.
