Late 1800s mahogany fusee dial clock by George Connell of 83, Cheapside, London.
A stunning example of a School/Office fusee dial clock from the late 19th century by George Connell who built up a family jewellery business at 83, Cheapside London.
The clock is in a wonderfully restored condition. The quality 4 pillar, 8-day movement has been recently completely overhauled and been test run both in and out of the case for several spring cycles.
London School/Station clock with sturdy anchor movement and short heavy pendulum. Typical for a school clock or station clock in England made as a chain-driven dial fusee wall clock.
With mahogany casing, thick metal dial to which the heavy solid movement is attached. Signed on the original dial: Connell, London , who were high class jewellers operating from London, Cheapside.
The 8-day spring winding makes use of a so-called fusee mechanism , which evenly divides the drive power over the running time. The fusee-cone is connected to the spring drum via a chain.
The clock case is made of dovetail jointed mahogany and has a little door on the side as well as on the bottom for access to the pendulum. Clock runs very well having been cleaned, serviced and bench tested for several spring cycles. A matching key will be included.
Would make a very worthwhile investment.
