Seller: graham3943 (1.216) 100%, Location: Thames Ditton (nr. Hampton Court), Surrey, Ships to: Worldwide, Item: 362838807700 SUPERB ORNATE ANTIQUE FRENCH CARRIAGE CLOCK TIMEPIECE ALL COMPLETELY ORIGINAL. IT HAS JUST BEEN COMPLETELY OVERHAULED AND SERVICED. IT HAS A DOUBLE-ENDED KEY. *CLOCK DIMENSIONS: Height with handle folded down 5 1/2 inches (13.5 cms); Width 3 inches (8 cms); Depth 2 3/4 inches (7 cms)I am retired and restore antique clocks as an interest. I have had professional training in clock repair and restoration. I specialise in carriage clocks. Earlier this month, I spent several hours working on this one. It is in beautiful condition and looks really stunning on display. BRASS CLOCK CASE: Solid cast brass in perfect original condition. Pretty fluted pillars, four matching finials and an ornate handle that folds down to the rear only. It has attractive overlaid friezes in repousee work to the top and base and sits on four small turned brass feet (to which I have stuck felt pads to protect surfaces). All case parts bear the same matching number (33), showing it to be totally original. The opening rear brass door is an absolute perfect fit - a good sign for obvious reasons! I completely dismantled the case and then cleaned, polished and waxed each part by hand before rebuilding the case. It now has a lustrous antique patina which should last for years.MOVEMENT: Excellent quality 8 day timepiece with its original cylinder escapement. It is all beautifully engineered and finished (the back plate screws for example, have been "blued"). It is stamped " D.H. FRANCE" on the back plate. After carefully checking the movement for wear, I completely dismantled it to give it a thorough clean, pegged it out, polished the pivots on the lathe and then oiled it with appropriate high-grade clock and watch oil. I hand polished all the plates prior to rebuilding it; I also dismantled, cleaned and oiled the escapement. The movement is now in perfect working order. There is a fast/slow adjustment lever which is reached through the opening rear door. The movement should not need servicing again for many years.DIAL: Light cream enamel-on-copper with painted floral swags inside the chapter ring. Bold arabic numerals. When I acquired the clock, the hairline cracks in the top left hand corner were dirty and noticeable. As it was the original dial and very pretty I wanted at all costs to retain it. So I carefully cleaned out the cracks with dial cleaner. If I say it myself, it has restored well: the cracks look more prominent in the photos than they do in real life - when they can really only be seen on the closest of inspections.. The delicate polished blued steel hands are original and in good condition. GLASSES: All five thick bevelled glasses are I believe original and in perfect condition save for one tiny chip to the bevel in the bottom left corner of the front glass. KEY: The clock comes with a new double-ended brass key which fits both winding arbours snugly: one end is for winding the 8-day movement and the other is for adjusting the hands.A BEAUTIFUL CLASSIC ANTIQUE FRENCH BRASS CARRIAGE CLOCK IN ORIGINAL CONDITION.
