Item:163721420456Directly from France, this burl wood box is a classic example of the burl document or glove box of the last quarter of the 19th century. The lid has a center medallion with brass (or gold, it is not marked) and a lighter wood for accent. The working key is included, (please note the French turn their keys in the opposite direction of the Americans). The inside is all original and in very good condition. It is tufted light blue satin both in the lid and the bottom so the contents are well cushioned. This box has some condition issues on the outside as follows: The veneer has come of on one area by the back corner, there are several abrasions and chips to the veneer on the sides and one corner has a small chip. There is a small crack in the bottom. This box is therefore sold as is, please look at the photo's carefully. I believe these flaws can be fixed, but it has not been attempted. It is structurally sound, with sound hinges and beautiful lining, but the outside is showing its age.
