Item:333287980841Antique English Early 19th Century GothicHand Carved Oak Tracery Panel ~Welcome to my auction for this fine quality, decorative carved oak panel~ This a lovely display piece dating from the early 19th century, or possibly even earlier - it would look great in a period home such as a converted chapel or similar. The panel is carved from a single piece of English oak - within the design are 6 quatrefoil motifs which a typical of the styles found within the medieval era and later Gothic revival of the 18th and 19th centuries. It's clear that this panel has been part of a larger structure during its lifetime - there are 4 regularly spaced small holes along the edge strip, no doubt left over from where it was once nailed to another part.I cannot say with any certainty what structure it was part of, possibly a rood screen, which was the partition between the chancel and the nave. There is currently a copper ring mounting to the rear so it can be hung on a wall vertically - my personal feeling is that it looks better and more balanced hung horizontally, similar to what you see in picture 4.This ring can easily be removed and repositioned along with another ring to allow a horizontal mounting. I can't provide any specific details as to what property this item was salvaged from, it was sourced by myself in Nottinghamshire and I believe it would of come from a local church or chapel. The panel measures 58.8cm length x 11.5cm wide x 1.4cm depth - the total unpacked weight is 492.7g. The condition of the piece is generally very good and solid - as mentioned above, there are 4 mounting holes along one edge which are visible from the front - there are a further 4 holes that are only visible from the back. There are some minor edge knocks here and there plus a rectangular chip of wood missing exactly halfway up the panel on the edge strip (this may be from how it was originally mounted) - also to the edge strip there are remnants of a nail head protruding slightly through the wood (see picture 11)The oak has a good colour and patination from 200 or so years of use, none of the contact marks or slight faults detract at all and it displays very well indeed. Please study the images provided to satisfy yourself as to the condition of the item - if you have any further questions please ask and I'll be happy to oblige. Postage to U.K. addresses is £6.95 (signed for) - postage to international addresses is £17.50 (tracked / signed for). Thanks for looking!Condition:Good condition - some signs of it having been mounted to a larger structure in the past - please see pictures and description., Colour:Brown, Antique Church Carving:Antique Chapel Carving, Gothic Panel:Gothic Tracery Panel, Style:Gothic, Material:Oak, Gothic Oak:Gothic Oak Carving, Decade:Pre 1890, Original/Reproduction:Antique Original, Features:Reclaimed
