On offer is this superb antique Chinese cloisonne shishi fu dog snuff box. Please see below for many more photographs. Measuring approximately 7½" tall to the head tip standing on the base, 8½" long. Absolutely stunning item, I'm afraid that the photographs really don't do this justice, it has to be seen in person. So much to say about it, the eyes are set with turquoise beads, as are the wings, the forehead and each of the four 'shoulders' of the creature. The front of the legs are set appropriately with tigers eye. The wings are so intricately designed with filligree metalwork along the edges, the central panels set with enamelled flowers and fronds, a stream of turquoise beads highlighting the movement of the wings, so much work has gone into this piece and the colours are simply amazing. Even the 'inside' of the wings are just as intricately detailed set with contrasting blue, pulling the whole design together. Amazing work. There are four sections, the wings, tail and head are all separate sections and can come away from the body of the animal. There is a little damage, one of the wings I am afraid to pull away completely for fear of breaking, it seems that there should be two prongs holding the wings in place for each wing, on one remain on each - please see the photographs of inside the main body to show how these fit. Another of the wings has an enamel flower piece missing, and the tip bends slightly upwards, it could easily be restored by an expert. The head does not fit 'snugly' and there is a little damage to the enamel, none missing but it is a little 'creased' on a few of the fronds. The beautifully enamelled tail tip fits neatly into is place at the tip of the tail. I could go on and on about this piece, it truly is a beautiful and incredibly detailed, from the enamelled 'eye brows' to the enamelled fronds behind the legs, simply stunning.
