An antique Edwardian era Ancient Order of Foresters sterling silver and enamel PDCR jewel in it's original case along with an (earlier ?) gilt metal chain of office, both made by George Tuthill, and the jewel fully hallmarked for Birmingham 1909.
The unusual chain of office is made of a thin gilt coloured pressed brass metal and comprises a pendant containing the coat of arms & motto of the Order upon a green velvet ground, all enclosed within a foliate / acorn scroll, and suspended on a chain made up of 14 'clasped hands' links. The rear is stamped 'George Tutill / Manufacturer / Regalia Department / 83 City Road, London'.
The silver & enamel jewel, which comes in it's original box, has the PDCR monogram enclosed by an 'Ancient Order Of Foresters' scroll with the crest above, and is suspended on a green & white striped ribbon with a silver & enamel horn and crest pin bar. The rear carries the makers mark 'GT', full English hallmarks for Birmingham 1909 - 10 (date letter k), and 'TUTHILL / LONDON', with the pin bar carrying the additional makers mark, lion passant, and date letter .
Size : Jewel approx 4 3/8" long inc ribbon, Box approx 5 1/8" x 2 5/8", Chain of office : pendant approx 4" x 5" at maximum points with a 33" long chain.
Condition : Jewel in good antique condition with no damage, gilt finish rubbed, ribbon grubby, unpolished. Box is solid with good sprung button, hinges, and interior. The exterior has edge wear / scuffing and tears / losses to the covering.
The left hand mounting on the chain of office has snapped off, as has the ring on one link and has been replaced by a wire (last 2 photos) otherwise good, uncleaned / unpolished condition with expected tarnish (particularly the rear of the pendant) - please see all photos & click to enlarge.
