Item:303281621651MORE PICTURES AFTER ITEM DESCRIPTIONThis well figured walnut veneered striking Vienna regulator wall clock was manufactured in Germany circa 1880, it has a serial number 10465 stamped in to the back plate of the movement I have included a picture of this as part of the clock description. The clock has a running duration of 8 days and is in excellent original working condition. The well-proportioned and slim case is in excellent condition and veneered in a particularly well figured walnut which has an excellent original gloss finish along with a nice patina consistent with a well preserved antique. In place of the more usual half round pillars the door to the case has canted corners with short fluted columns and 3/4 turned finials at the top and the bottom of the door giving a restrained and elegant appearance to the clock, this style is often referred to as the “skyrocket “case. As with most of the earlier cases the top section is integral and not detachable and has a particularly nice moulding with two similar finials both sides and a larger central finial. The mouldings, finials, door embellishments and the carvings are in excellent condition and are ebonised contrasting well with the walnut veneer. The case is in excellent and original condition. The levelling screws and brackets are present and the glass to the sides and the door of the case is original. The clock also has its original winding key. As with all weight driven Vienna regulators the movement is of the highest quality having maintaining power and dead beat escapement for accurate timekeeping. The movement has just been professionally cleaned and is original to the case. It is keeping excellent time and striking reliably. Striking is every hour (once for each hour indicated) and then once for every half hour on a coiled steel gong fixed to the movement mounting bracket. I have included some pictures of the movement at the end of the item description. The white porcelain dial has Roman numerals and a subsidiary seconds dial, it is in excellent condition with no damage or hairline cracks. The 2 pulleys and the brass cased weights and pendulum are also in excellent condition. The pierced steel hands are of typical Viennese style. As can be seen from the photographs, although over 100 years old this clock is in superb original condition requiring no restoration at all. Height - 51 inches Max width - 14 inches (at top) Max depth - 7. inches Dial diameter - 7 inches. If the clock is to be sent by post it will be securely packaged in a custom made heavy duty double wall corrugated cardboard box with adequate bubble wrap and other materials to protect the clock, these boxes cost me £18.
