Visually Stunning French 19thC White Marble Gilt Portico Mantel Clock with matching Twin Arm Candelabra Garnitures.
Made by A D Mougin who was a well-known French clock maker working in the mid to late nineteenth century.
He is known to have made clocks in the French clock making region of Montbeliard and is also listed as having premises on the Rue de Turenne in Paris. He won two gold medals at exhibitions for his clocks and used these as the basis for his trademark which contain the ‘Deux Medailles’.
This beautiful example of his work is made from solid white marble with a plethora of gilt decoration, original sunburst pendulum and matching twin arm candelabra garnitures. The porcelain clock face has been hand decorated with a circular floral Garland and has gilt hands.
It’s in great working condition with the odd mark commensurate with its age with one ancient repair to the one of the candelabra stems.
The 8 day mechanism delicately strikes a bell on the hour and half hour and has the AD Mougin stamp and benefits from a recent service.
(14.5”H x 8.5”W x 5”D and each garniture is 9”H x 6”W x 3”D)
