ERNEST CICERI (1817-1866), MINIATURE ANTIQUE 19thC WATERCOLOUR PAINTING, SIGNED

Description:

An antique miniature watercolour painting by Ernest Ciceri (1817-1866), signed 'E. Ciceri' to the lower right, and dating to the mid 19th Century.

The painting of watercolour and gouache on paper, depicts a capriccio view of a lively city with figures approaching a large cathedral over a stone built bridge and misty cityscape in the background.

It is cleanly mounted and framed under glass in a molded gilt gesso and wood frame.

We have other pieces by the Ciceri family for sale, so please take a look at our other items.

Background :

Ernest Ciceri (1817 Paris - 1866 New Orleans, Louisiana ) was son to  Pierre Cicéri, famous as the chief designer at the Paris Opera from 1816 to 1847.

He was active in America from 1859-1866, and this artwork pre-dates his relocation to USA. He, like his brother Eugene, is known to have painted scenes from North Africa, therefore known as an orientalist.
