Seller: bittyboy101 ✉️ (5,765) 100%, Location: Wirral, GB, Ships to: GB, Item: 166663528001 Old Georgian Mortice Lock 1 Key Horizontal LEFT HANDED LOCK Fantastic Condition. Hello there and welcome to this listing, (Please see all  18  photos and scroll down to read the full description)  Here I have for sale a very, very nice super rare fabulous HEAVY GAUGE STEEL AND BRASS CONSTRUCTION original 1820's pre Victorian  1 lever HEAVY DUTY warded LEFT HANDED Georgian horizontal Mortice Lock and 1 working ORIGINAL Georgian Skeleton  key  which still works the lock perfectly with a very nice solid action. VERY IMPORTANT - BUYER TO NOTE THAT THE CATCH BOLT ON THIS LOCK IS FOR A LEFT HANDED DOOR AND IS **NOT  REVERSIBLE**   SO THIS LOCK WON'T BE SUITABLE IF YOU INTEND TO USE IT ON A RIGHT HANDED DOOR. PLEASE SEE LAST PHOTO IN THIS LISTING FOR  ILLUSTRATION  OF LEFT AND RIGHT HAND DOORS FOR MORE INFORMATION BEFORE YOU BUY THIS GREAT ANTIQUE LOCK. This lock is from my personal vintage lock collection, It is a rare Georgian  Heavy Gauge 1  Lever WARDED horizontal mortice door lock of a very popular English Georgian design, It  is in perfect working order and is in fantastic condition with its gleaming polished brass work which still looks really fabulous !.. This is now a collector's item as this is a very rare and high quality well made mortice lock which has been very well engineered to last ! and has clearly stood the test of time very well ! TIP:  I f you are having problems getting the lock to sit flush with the door...  Always use a small block of wood (to protect the lock from damage) and a hammer, to gently tap the lock face plate flush with the door so that it sits flush with the surrounding wood.   Again, This lock in very good condition for its age but being an USED, old original lock it may show some obvious signs of use and wear (it has some faint rust pitting on one side around the keyhole due to it being from an external door), which only adds to its original character! so please bare this in mind before you decide to buy this great ultra rare quality lock and study all the photographs very carefully as they show the actual lock that you will receive and the over all condition that it is in including any marks or imperfections it has being an old original lock that is now around 200 years old. There is also a original heavy gauge brass keeper plate (striking plate) and 4 brass fixing screws included with this lock.  This lock has 1 lever plus internal warding and is a very secure lock.  The warding means that this lock has an internal "obstruction" (pieces of metal inside of the keyhole called warding) which the key MUST have the same corresponding profile cut out so that the key is able to turn and get past this "obstruction" (the warding that is inside this lock), if the key does not have the same sort of cutout which matches the internal warding then the key will simply NOT TURN in this lock. It is ideal mainly for internal doors where security and home insurance is not an issue, For external doors, I recommend using an BS insurance approved 5 lever deadlock mortice lock (or a Yale barrel lock) along side this lock to get round the insurance issue if you want to use this lock for a front door of a Georgian property to add an all important original feature that might be missing or broken. However if desired, this lock may be used on an external door along with an additional Yale cylinder type barrel lock or a 5 lever mortice dead lock which is BS insurance approved for added security and insurance cover.  Measurements for this lock are below: Size of lock face: 139 mm high by 28 mm wide by 7.5 mm in depth. Size of lock body or lock case: 146.5 mm long (this is excluding the 7.5 mm thickness of the front steel lock plate and the shiny brass face plate) and the lock case is  approx 88.5 mm high by 17 mm thick.  Total depth of this lock is 154 mm. (this is including the 7.5 mm thickness of the front steel lock plate and the shiny brass  face plate) The measurement from the front face of this lock to the center of the key hole is 60 mm.  The measurement from the front face of this lock to the center of the door handle (or door knob) spindle hole is 136 mm. The measurements of the keeper plate (striking plate) are 118 mm high by 23.5 mm wide (at its narrowest point) and 41 mm wide (at its widest point) which includes the length of the keep plate tongue/lip which guides the lock catch bolt smoothly into the keeper plate or striking plate hole without it damaging the door frame ! The thickness of the keeper plate (or striking plate) is approx 2.8 mm brass.  The total length of the key is approx 97 mm (just under 4 inches long) VERY IMPORTANT - BUYER TO NOTE THAT THE CATCH BOLT ON THIS LOCK IS FOR A LEFT HANDED DOOR AND IS **NOT  REVERSIBLE**   SO THIS LOCK WON'T BE SUITABLE IF YOU INTEND TO USE IT ON A RIGHT HANDED DOOR. PLEASE SEE LAST PHOTO IN THIS LISTING FOR  ILLUSTRATION  OF LEFT AND RIGHT HAND DOORS FOR MORE INFORMATION BEFORE YOU BUY THIS GREAT ANTIQUE LOCK. TIP: On these sort of locks, Once fitted to the door, It is always much easier to use the key to put the dead bolt in the locked position with the door open! BEFORE you fit the front face plate and two small screws to finish the job. PLEASE STUDY ALL 18 PHOTOS as they form a very big part of the DESCRIPTION in this listing and they show any imperfections that this lock may have as well as they show some of the most relevant measurements that are needed.
