Item:113920880607A large striking drum clock by the French maker Samuel Marti circa 1880 (French Empire period) A beautiful marble base on turned wood feet, four fluted brass columns, each with finials and a large drum case (eight inches in diameter). The face has the patented Brocot visible escapement, a pair of brass moon hands against a dark chapter with brass numerals.The striking movement is an eight-day duration with a quality compensated mercury pendulum, a steel gong is struck half hourly and with the hours(nice mellow tone) Overall condition is very good, a couple of scratches to the bevelled glass door(may polish out with cerium powder or similar) The movement has just been serviced and is operating perfectly.
