Seller: timerunner56 (1.045) 100%, Location: Bournemouth, Dorset, Ships to: GB & many other countries, Item: 293384504544 An Early French Silk Suspension Ormolu Mantle Clock With FigureAn excellent quality ormolu French 8 day bell striking mantle clock. The gilt brass/bronze case has the figure of what appears to be an artist in 18th century dress holding a pallet alongside an easel (3rd leg missing). The detail on this case is superb but there is one sheet brass panel missing (see photos). This piece never had a front bezel and probably sat under a glass dome. The enamel dial is mostly very good (few minor hairline cracks) and is signed 'Grignon Meusnier, Paris'. Part of one dial hand is missing. The back door bezel is nice quality. The movement is a countwheel escapement with silk suspension is also signed, this time 'S.Marti'. The movement is striking when released. Both springs are good and fully wound. One strap has become detached, so just needs reattaching. There are parts of a pendulum which may not be original. A very nice and early French ormolu mantle clock (not spelter) sold as seen for restoration/parts with no guarantee or returns. A terrific project that's priced accordingly!
