We present a super quality expansive marine landscape in watercolours, a castle fortress overlooking a wide estuary at low tide, probably the west coast of Scotland.  Signed lower left wit with a monogram and ascribed by a later hand to an old label verso probably from the earlier mount\0, this is the work of JW Hamilton-Marr ARCA (1846 – 1913).  Scottish British painter, working in both oils and watercolours, Hamilton-Marr was known to paint coastal scenes and landscapes across Scotland, favouring the west coast and the Western Islas. He exhibited widely, including the Grosvenor Gallery London; was a member of the Royal Institute of Oil Painters and apparently exhibited 199 works at the Birmingham Society of Artists between 1888 and 1899 London. Many examples of Hamilton-Marr’s work can be seen on artprice.com, findartinfo.com, arcadia.com, askart.com besides several provincial auction sites. Presented in very good condition in a later frame, this painting will look fabulous displayed.
