Item:333328230083This is an antique Japanese mid Meiji Era (c. 1880's) lidded ceramic Imari bowl made of a high fire ceramic for lasting durability. It is all hand thrown and hand painted with garden scenes in multi color (akaimari) Imari. Depicted are three scenes: plum blossom, pine tree and bamboo - known as the Three Friends of Winter - sho-chiku-bai, which is repeated in both the bowl and lid (see pictures 3, 5, 6 and 10). These three trees do not wither in winter and together symbolize steadfastness, perseverance and resilience. The bowl has a hand written signature on the bottom, made in Dai Min Era (see picture 7). Please view the closeup pictures to admire the finely painted details and workmanship of this lidded Imari bowl. The bowl measures 4 1/2" in diameter by 2 1/2" tall (11.4 x 6.4 cm) by itself. The lid measures 4 1/4" in diameter by 1 1/4" tall (10.8 x 3.2 cm). Together they bowl and lid measure 3 1/4" tall (8.3 cm). With exception to minor signs of use, this lidded bowl remains in fine condition.
