Item:143224030421ANTIQUE ARCH TOP GERMAN BRACKET CLOCK. WESTMINSTER CHIME. Circa 1920'S. Very nice dark oak veneer German bracket / shelf clock from the early 1920's. The arch top case is in a rich dark oak veneer and is in very good general condition and sound construction. The clock front has an arched front door glazed with thick bevel edged glass, inset Barley twist pillars to either side. Rear door has an inset perforated panel with a dark red material behind. Lower mouldings form the base and it stands on 4 brass bun feet. Both doors good hinges and firm closing and are of solid wood construction. Dial back plate is in brass with mounted engraved and silvered chapter ring. Outer minute markers and Arabic numbers. Centre of dial is matted. Dial is unsigned. The two top chapter ring dials also engraved and silvered. Left top is the fine time keeping adjustment and right is Chime / silence to turn chimes on or off. Good clean and polish is all that is required of the case unless you wish to restore the brass work or rear door cloth. The movement is unsigned and of very good quality. I have not been able to identify the maker, but it was very common in the early years after WW1 for clocks from Germany to have no names on them for obvious sales reasons. The movement is of 8 day duration with 3 going barrels and the escapement is pendulum controlled. The strike & chime barrels are geared for easier winding on the very strong springs. Wound from dial side & key is supplied. The movement features a rise and fall mechanism for the suspension which is carried out through the top left dial and allows for extra fine timing of the pendulum. Chiming is the popular Westminster chime played on the back case mounted five rod tuned gong block of which the tune is played on 4 rods. Chime increases each quarter with full tune on the hour followed by the strike of the hours indicated on the dial. Strike is on the fifth gong rod only. Chime can be silenced from the right hand dial at the front. The movement carries the number 46700. In good working order and of substantial quality. Pictures show front and rear of movement removed from case. If anyone does identify the maker I will post on the listing. Dimensions. Height 34 cm's (14¼ inches). Width: 26 cm's (10¼ inches). Depth: 17.4 cm's (6¾ inches) Weight: 5.7 Kg's unpacked.I have just checked the listing on Ebay and it would appear that Ebays photo enhancement has made the case etc look mottled and over exposed. I can assure you that the wood finish is not burnt or baked as the pictures show. If I can find out how to adjust or replace the pictures I will do so.Please see my other listings and watch for future items as I shall be disposing of a lot more clocks from my collection including some unfinished projects such as a W.R.
