ANTIQUE 17th CENTURY FLEMISH BRUSSELS TAPESTRY PILLOW
Description
For your consideration is a mid-17th century polychrome silk and wool Brussels tapestry pillow. This tapestry pillow has a square shape of 17” with 6-7 chain lines per centimeter.
In our opinion, this pillow was made from a fragment of a larger tapestry featuring grotesque scenes symbolizing a particular season or a month.
Consistent with Roman mythology, we believe this tapestry pillow depicts “Ceres”, the Goddess of agriculture and fertility. This pillow is backed by 19th century teal blue silk velvet with a zipper. Inside the cover is a down pillow.
Except for some minor thinning or loss of silk in a few areas, this tapestry pillow is in very good condition. (Please see pictures)
