Gatcombe Antiques
A rather nice mid-Victorian walnut Tunbridgeware dome topped two division tea caddy with original working lock and key. The domed top has two broad bands of marquetry, set within a veneer of walnut. This extends down the front, which has a small brass escutcheon. The top opens to reveal two divisions with walnut lids that each have a small turned wooden knob. There is a hairline crack in the left lid that I noticed, which can be just about seen, after a previous repair. The foil linings on the underside of the lids and internally are in the main, still present. The inside of the domed top has a walut veneer lining and the base has been given a new green baize lining. It has been sympathetically cleaned, re-waxed and polished. A few scratches and marks as you would expect, in overall very good condition. Measurements: 18 cm wide, 11 cm deep and 14 cm high.Aftercare:
C leaned and restored to a high standard. All you need to do is wipe over with a soft cloth from time to tim e. You can occasionally use a spray furniture polish that contains bees wax, which will maintain its satin sheen. Please don’t use a silicone spray as this could be detrimental to the wax ed surface.
