A Peking blue Glass sphere topped with an opaque turquoise and white agate sphere topped with a Peking ruby red glass sphere topped with an imperial yellow sphere all graduating in size. All Mounted in filagree gilt metal. The base a silver Filigree metal This piece is likely to have belonged to royalty or a High ranking official. Hats are an important accessory in Chinese dress and an official was never seen without his hat outside his private quarters. Hat finials were worn by the nine ranks of high ranking Chinese officials during the Qing dynasty (1644-1912) to differentiate between the ranks, a practice governed by regulation.
