Item:323816018205A Fine Rare Striking & Repeating Carriage Clock Drocourt Paris c1875. Superb quality Drocourt repeating carriage clock for Benson c.1880. The backplate carries the JWB oval to the left above the serial no 20456 and close examination has revealed the Drocourt mark underneath. The secret mark of Drocourt, (an oval withDrocourt Paris), is hidden between the plates to the inside behind the gong barrel.The clock retains much of its original gilding and is in excellent condition, serviced regularly. It retains its original silvered platform escapement with an additional satin-gilt frame around the perfect, clear, enamelled dial and is set with fine Breguet style full moon blued steel hands.It is signed by the retailer J W Benson, 25 Old Bond Street London, who themselves were fine clockmakers. Drocourt was renowned for the clarity of his dials and this is a perfect example. Rare to find one in such good condition and with the retailer so clearly marked.Further images available on request.
