Instructions are as follows: Prepare a morel bed in your garden using the ashes from a wood burning stove or barbecue (as long as you burn only hardwood logs). Alternatively, you can make a small bonfire in your garden using hardwood firewood. Again, no treated wood, paper, cardboard, or fire lighters. A guide ratio to follow would be approximately 1 to 2 buckets of ash, 1 bucket of compost or Irish moss peat and 2.5 kg of gypsum. That will be sufficient for a 1m square bed.
Black Morels can be started any time of the year; Spring, Summer and Autumn are the best times. They can be started in Winter also since Morel mycelium is tolerant to frosts.
Simply crumble and mix in your spawn into the prepared bed and cover with a layer of leaf litter gathered from any hardwood species such as oak, beech or chestnut etc.
The spawn can be stored in the fridge for up to 14 days until you are ready to use it. For best results, use it as soon as possible.
