For your consideration is an early and intriguing primitive tool
It is a blacksmith hammered wrought iron long, flattened hook with wooden handle
The end of the hook has a little nip, which looks to be made intentionally and to have a purpose for this particular tool
At one side there are incised lines, which most likely represent some kind of measuring scale, there 19 altogether, some in pair, some in groups of 3, some single
We are not sure in what trade might've been used, around the farm, in carpentry, or in some kind of industry, we can only guess
It needs additional research, the closest item that we found is a swan's neck mortise chisel for timber work, but again is just a guess
Old, primitive repair made with wire to reattach the handle
Early 19th century, found in Massachusetts
All original
Measurements: Approx. 14.5" long with the handle x 0.5" overall the hook, 1" the handle
Weighs about 6 oz.
