This unusual box may have been used as a table top cigarette box or as a dresser jewelry box as it's original purpose is unknown and the size is perfect for numerous purposes. The top of the box is decorated with an elaborate engraved design with an attached swing handle. The box sits on four decorative paw feet. There is a name faintly engraved on the inside of the base that is not totally legible but appears to be "T. Hoagen..erf".
The box has three hallmarks that we are unable to identify but are certain that the box is European or Continental silver due to the type hallmarks used. Two of the hallmark stamps are on the inside of the lid near the upper left and upper right corners. The third hallmark stamp in on the bottom interior of the box near the lower right corner.
This nice box is in very good Estate condition with no major damage or repairs. The hinge is tight and the box opens and closed correctly. There is one small "punch" type mark on the center top and one foot appears to be slight pushed in as reflected on the inside otherwise the box reflects only minor signs of normal wear.
Measures 1 5/8" high, 5 1/4" long and 3" wide. Weighs 185 grams.
