Seller: four_merks ✉️ (2,462) 100%, Location: Stirling, GB, Ships to: AMERICAS, EUROPE, ASIA, AU, Item: 253498777894 1917 SCOTTISH SCHOOL PENCIL PORTRAIT DRAWING OF MAN SIGNED GLASGOW SCHOOL OF ART. I have obtained a trunk of original drawings, paintings and personal effects of Mary Anderson Ramsay (1896-1963), Jessie Dunlop McCulloch Wilson (1888-1967) and George Ramsay (1893-?). Mary A Ramsay and Jessie D M Wilson met at Glasgow School of Art around the time of the Great War and together in 1926 they opened 'The Studio' (also known as 'Strathyre Pottery') in Strathyre, Perthshire, Ramsay's home village. The trunk contains many works from their time at Glasgow School of Art with some earlier and some later works. Offered here is a highly accomplished pencil portrait drawing of a young man which was removed from a distressed frame found within the trunk. It is signed/monogrammed and dated 1917 but the artist and the sitter are so far unidentified. There is also a tiny inscription on the reverse which remains undeciphered. It dates to a time when Jessie and Mary were both at Glasgow School of Art and may be the work of one of their contemporaries or teachers. The drawing measures 6 3/4" x 5 1/8". Condition as per my photos (reflecting 100+ years of attic style storage) and offered here with a low price start and no reserve.
