Charles Burford Banting enlisted into the 2nd Battalion East Yorkshire Regiment.
He was awarded the Queens South Africa medal with the clasps; Orange Free State, Transvaal and South Africa 1902. The 2nd Battalion East Yorkshire Regiment arrived at the Cape on 3rd April. The Mounted Infantry company (which included Charles as he was awarded the clasp Transvaal) were in the action at Kaffir's Spruit, in the Eastern Transvaal, on 19 December 1901.
At the start of the First World War, he was ranked as a Corporal and ended the war as a Colour Serjeant whilst serving in the 6 thBattalion.
