Published according to Act of Parliament January ye 1st, 1769." An important map of the County published before the Ordnance Survey had been formed to map the Country (Kent being the first County they published in 1801). This set (2" to 1 mile) at twice the scale of the OS series (1" to 1 mile) giving lots of detail. Andrews and Dury published two or three maps of the environs of London, which would of course have required some work on at least part of the County in the vicinity of the City. This sheet has been trimmed to the border all round, but the whole map is present, and has lovely original handcolouring. Superb detail of an area that has changed a great deal since the publication of this map. I doubt if the Silk Mills, Gallows, Work House and Turnpike that are marked in the bottom right corner are still there! Size: The sheet measures approx. 64.5cms x 45cms. It is sheet number 6.Condition: This sheet has been trimmed tightly around the border. A small overlap for Westerham has been allowed. Small tears down the left hand edge, repaired with archival tape on the back (no loss on the front to any map area as the left hand side is Surrey). There appears to be a bit of a child's drawing on the back too. So not ideal, but the whole map is present, with lovely original handcolouring - it would look lovely in a frame. Please note, the Title Page shown in the photos is for guidance only, and NOT supplied with the map that is for sale here. I will be putting the Title Page up for sale later.I am selling separately most of the maps from this set of 25. Please see my other items.
