A very nice example of a private purchase Model 1891 Prussian Officer's pickelhauben, which has been modified as per regulations in order to be worn by a Senior Non Commissioned Officer. The pickelhaube dates from before 1897 (has only the Prussian cockade) and consists of an officer's pickelhaube, but with a smaller Other Ranks' spike, held on by round retaining studs. On the officer's version, the spike is at least a half taller and the retaining studs are star shaped. The quality and condition is very good and the brass chinscales are complete. The leather displays the normal signs of age and the shellac coating has small stress cracks. The state eagle may be a replacement, but is right for the helmet. Inside head size is about a 56. Size: 24 x 18 x 21.5 cm (9 1/2 x 7 x 8 1/2 inches) Weight: 377 g
