Brochure / Pieghevole Vintage Anni Sessanta / 1960 / 1960s Lingua: Spagnolo / Francese / Inglese / Tedesco Misure chiusa: 11 x 20,5 cm Misure aperta: 43 x 20,5 cm Originally, the Hotel Rosaleda, which was later declared an Asset of cultural interest, had 60 rooms, most of which had their own bathroom. It was also the first hotel in Andorra to have a pool and a party room. Its most noteworthy elements included the reading room with its leather armchairs, the common rooms (painted with allegoric mountain motifs, as well as Hawaiian, Tyrolean, Spanish and Catalan ones, and luxuriously accommodated), the main staircase, and one of the first electric lifts in the country. The staff was select and the hotel never closed, as it was oriented to customers with a high economic status. Many illustrious and rich people, as well as celebrities, some descendants of European royal families and even Aga Khan III stayed at this hotel. This is why the Rosaleda was the most luxurious hotel in Andorra. It closed its doors in 1998 and the Government expropriated it in 2006 to prevent its disappearance. The building has undergone a renovation and is now the seat of the Ministry of Culture. ____________ The Hotel Rosaleda is a building with a rectangular floor plan, designed by the renowned architect Adolf Florensa, of the Noucentisme movement. It was built between 1941 and 1943, and is one of the most iconic buildings of the granite architecture, as well as one of the few examples of buildings designed during the second third of the 20th century by renowned architects who introduced foreign and cosmopolitan currents to the country. The project signed by Florensa dates from 1941 and is archived at the Official College of Architects of Catalonia (Col·legi Oficial d’Arquitectes de Catalunya), although the date 1943 has been sculpted in the façade. It is an example of the architecture of the second third of the 20th century, with buildings designed by prestigious architects that nevertheless respected local tradition. It is also an example of the evolution of hotels and of the socio-economic evolution of Andorra in the mid-20th century. Despite sharing the characteristics of a mountain hotel, the building is part of the current of granite architecture, of which the main element is the construction of the outer wall covering with granite stone, besides other characteristics such as windows with semi-circular arches or the presence of mansard roofs. Neoclassical elements include the use of square ashlar in the angles of the façades, semi-circular arches with voussoirs and rectangular lintels on the windows of the main façade. At the time of its inauguration, the hotel had 60 rooms (the number was later increased), some of which had their own bathroom and hot water. The rooms could be accessed through a large staircase or an electric lift, one of the first in Andorra (Casa Felipó and the Hotel Valira also had one). The hotel had three dining rooms: one for breakfasts, a main one and a summer one. It had a bar, a terrace and a luxuriously-decorated reading room with leather sofas. The stained glass on the reception and dining room doors were one of the most significant elements of the hotel, with scenes alluding to mountain life and Andorran landscapes. The semi-basement held the rooms for the staff and the laundry room; a party room was built there in the 1950s. The outdoor pool was also built around that time. The hotel was originally conceived and built as a luxury hotel, and both its service and clients were in accordance with this orientation. Its clients came mainly from the Catalan bourgeoisie of the 1940s and 1950s, but the hotel also welcomed members of the international high society. The building has a rectangular floor plan and consists of a basement, which extends beyond the main structure of the building, a ground floor and four floors. The south-western façade has a large balcony that covers the entrance to the basement and two more premises extend the building in that direction. This balcony and the floor that defines it contribute to the precise solution that helped develop the building in a notably steep terrain. It is an isolated construction, with four façades that can be considered to be the main one, although they have been treated differently. The ground floor and the four upper floors containing the lobby, the living rooms, the bar, the dining room, the kitchen and the rooms, are built atop the basement, which housed the parking lot, the storage, the service rooms and the iconic party room, built during the second half of the 20th century. The final floor, which had originally been a rather unusable attic, was recovered to gain more rooms. A great number of dormers were added during a renovation in the 1950s, thereby making the initial roof more complex. Florensa’s expression can clearly be seen on the façades: the Noucentista influence appears, full of analyzed historicist signs and regional references: the Monumentalism of the front and back façades, the medieval or regionalist roots of the tower and even the warm and endearing western façade, as subtly intimate as that of an alpine chalet. The Hotel Rosaleda is indeed a summary of its time. The Hotel Rosaleda was originally conceived as an isolated building: the last construction, for a while, in the north-eastern end of the town, between the road and the river and surrounded by agricultural fields. The development of Encamp has modified the initial surroundings in a new urban context. The Hotel Rosaleda and the building of the Comú d’Encamp (town hall), in front of each other, are two singular landmarks with an important historical symbolism. This is also the area intended for the new National Automobile Museum, which will be partially built underground in order to respect the protection environment of the hotel.   SI ACCETTA LA PROPOSTA D'ACQUISTO!!!
