Victorian, antique heavy silver plated, wick trimmer/ candle snuffer, by John Gilbert, Birmingham, Sheffield Plate. They areclearly stamped with the name Gilbert in scroll lettering in two boxes withGilbert’s maker’s mark in the middle., (a reverse triangle with a cross ontop). This snuffer is 175 mm., long, and 50 mm., at the widest point and weighs114 grams.
This ornate, Victorian antique candlesnuffer was made by John Gilbert in either Birmingham or London, England, circa1880 The ornate design features classic shell and acanthus-leaf motifs and thebox part has a fluted design. The date of manufacture is not known.

This Victorian, antique, silver-platewick trimmer - candle snuffer, was pre-owned, in excellent condition, does nothave any plate loss, dents, deep scratches or gouges. It does have scratchescommensurate with age, usage & wear. The scissor action is secure, and theclosing spring is in good order. Seller’s ref. AA 264
